| The buzz around the Dior Haute Couture show reached a high even before the first model took her walk when Jourdan Dunn posted tweets about being cut from the show. Lucky for Dior’s Raf Simons, that was quickly forgotten after the show wrapped. According to The Telegraph the designer said he was inspired by the personal style of "women from different continents and cultures who wear couture," which explains how far-ranging in style the collection was. From tiered pleated skirts that called to mind traditional Spaniard designs to obi belts and new takes on the classic kimono, the collection didn’t feel as cohesive as what one might have expected from the designer. There were also striped fishtail dresses, houndstooth suits, sporty pieces and striped floor length gowns that brought to mind some of the designer’s previous work at Jil Sander. The colors similarly ran the gamut, but what the collection lacked in cohesion, it more than made up for in skill of craftsmanship and uniqueness of design. Particularly notable were the pieces made from iridescent fabrics, the most awe-inspiring of which was slashed with iridescent panels. |
